Austin Hatch gets his number called in Loyola’s first league game

By Tristan Vanech

Loyola basketball has a future Arizona Wildcat and a 7-footer on his way to UCLA, but tonight another Division 1-bound senior shined in the spotlight as Austin Hatch took the stage.

With the reserves into Loyola’s league opener against Notre Dame, Hatch checked in to resounding cheers from the student section. Just a few possessions later, Hatch came off a high pick, grabbed a pass and let the ball soar from behind the arc–and it was good.

His first shot as a Cub was so good the Loyola student section was called for a technical for nearly rushing the court.

The final score: Loyola 87, Notre Dame 59.

Hatch was not available for comment after the game but tweeted, “As I said after the game, my three was pretty cool, but, more importantly, we’re now 14-0.”

Yesterday he tweeted, “Even tho I was millimeters away from death, I WILL play for Michigan because ‘I CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST WHO STRENGTHENS ME.'”
